Life is all about choice. Heartcore's mission is empower young people with information about healthy living and specifically the dangers of tobacco. The choice is yours but we hope you’ll make the right one… Use the buttons above to read up about food, drugs, exercise and mental health. Each page has a scene with two choices, one that is good for your heart and another one that is bad. You can choose which one you prefer, but watch your heart rate in the top left corner…to accelerate or not to. A steady heart rate means you have a healthy heart. If you overdo it, you might end up in hospital with a broken heart. Sniff sniff! South Africa is becoming more and more westernized, our eating habits, exercise patterns and social habits are changing rapidly. Did you know that more and more teenagers are becoming overweight or even obese because they are less active and are eating large amounts of junk and convenience foods? Did you know that because of this many teenagers are showing the symptoms of high blood pressure and heart problems? 17% of South African children are obese! This is the scary truth. Be honest - how many of you consider your health as a major priority in your life? When you put something into your body, are you considering the long term effects? Our challenge to you: Forget the short term pleasures… think about the effects of what you eat, drink and do will have on your body later in life!! Drug abuse has become an epidemic in South Africa. Millions of teenagers are struggling with some form of drug abuse and hundreds are dying each day because of drug addiction…which is totally uncool…and YOU can make a difference! According to the findings of the International Narcotics Control Board (an independent body established by the United Nations) South Africa remains the largest producer of dagga in southern Africa; the number of illegal drug laboratories has risen sharply and South Africans are the world’s biggest users on Mandrax. Reality bites!
